He also spent over a decade at GTE Hawaiian Tel in various roles, beginning as a switching system engineer in 1984 and rising through the ranks to an account manager for business development networks at GTE Hawaiian Tel until 1995.

In preparation for his career, Mr. Motoyama earned a Bachelor of Science in general engineering with a focus on electrical and electronics engineering from Harvey Mudd College in 1984. He also garnered a Master of Business Administration from Chaminade University of Honolulu in 1989.
