Since establishing HBA in 1977, she has fought valiantly to realize gender equity and equality within the entire healthcare industry globally, while strengthening the industry as a whole.
SARASOTA, FL, March 18, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Peggy Dougherty Marcus has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Drawing on decades of varied professional experience in account management, education, marketing, advertising and business, Ms. Dougherty Marcus excels as the Co-Founder and now Founder Emeritus of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association. Since establishing HBA in 1977, she has fought valiantly to realize gender equity and equality within the entire healthcare industry globally, while strengthening the industry as a whole.
During the early stages of her career, she was an Account Executive at Dean L. Burdick Associates, VP of Media for Lavey /Wolff/Swift, and VP of New Business for CDI Travel and International Travel Bureau, before starting her own, all-female owned and operated global meeting planning firm, Custom Made Meetings in 1994.
An expert in her field, Ms. Dougherty Marcus became a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) in 1991 through Meeting Professionals International. Driven to remain abreast of changes in her fields, she was a member of MPI, PCMA, AWNY (Advertising Women of New York), now rebranded as “She Runs It” and many other organizations.
Outside of her work, she has volunteered for dozens of organizations including Child Find of America (Board President), Major Joseph J. Fern Elementary School, Circus Arts Conservatory, Gilda’s Club (original Club founded in New York City in 1980), NYIBC, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Welcome Club of Sarasota/Manatee, Visible Men Academy, Sarasota Newcomers Club and Barrington Stage Company.
Ms. Dougherty Marcus has been recognized many times for her volunteerism including a US Congressional Recognition from Congresswoman Mazie Hirono (now U.S. Senator-Hawaii), a Certificate of Appreciation from the Office of the Mayor Mufi Hannemann of Honolulu, Hawaii, Jefferson Awards nominee for Public Service, Cinderella to CEO finalist, United State of Women nominee, and Honorary Lifetime Membership HBA among them.
While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in founding the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association. The cornerstone of her success, she says, lies with the constant support of her husband of 46 years, Bob Marcus, her late father, “Doc” Dougherty, her brother, Jim Dougherty (the first corporate partner of HBA) and her amazing boss, the late Douglas F. Brown.
Looking ahead, Ms. Dougherty Marcus aims to continue serving as a beacon of guidance, inspiration and mentor to women in her field.
