    FREDERICKSBURG, VA, March 18, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Michael Emerson Deitz, PhD, has been inducted into Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Deitz is recognized for his extensive background and success as a licensed professional counselor and educator. Having joined Healthy Minds Therapy PLLC in Fredericksburg, Virginia, in 2020, he rose from a resident in counseling to an assistant clinical director in 2023. Through the private practice, he sees approximately 30 patients weekly, ranging in age from children through adults, and specializes in treating mood disorders and eating disorders. Dr. Deitz notably works with many at-risk patients, including military veterans and veterans preparing for retirement.

Besides his fieldwork, Dr. Deitz has been teaching academia. He has been affiliated with his alma mater, the College of William & Mary, and Virginia Commonwealth University as an adjunct professor since 2021. Through the College of William & Mary, he serves in its counselor education program. Dr. Deitz teaches undergraduate- and graduate-level courses and supervises practicum students at their internship sites. He has been teaching since 2017.

Adding to his expertise, Dr. Deitz published an article titled ‘Man Up’ about the importance of vulnerability in mental health and speaking up for males in society. He also published several articles about working women and mothers. Additionally, Dr. Deitz co-authored a chapter (“Ethical Considerations for Counseling Stepfamilies”) in a textbook produced by the American Counseling Association entitled “Intervening for Stepfamily Success: One Case, Multiple Perspectives.”

Before working in mental health care, Dr. Deitz was heavily engaged in sports as a distinguished gymnast for 20 years and a Division 1 Team Captain. He notably served as a judge for the Junior Olympic Men’s Program, a varsity athlete representative for USA Gymnastics, and a gymnastics coach for Williamsburg Gymnastics. During his years in sports, Dr. Deitz also became recognized as the 2015 USA Gymnastics’ Collegiate Athlete of the Year. He also was recognized as the first student-athlete speaker at the National Collegiate Athletic Association National Championship, where he spoke about mental health.

Civically engaged, Dr. Deitz has given back his time as a fundraising intern and volunteer for the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) in New York City, beginning during his college years. He served as the director of Williamsburg’s chapter of the NEDA Walk. He spent over five years in leadership positions for this charity. Dr. Dietz is also a former Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International secretary.

Dr. Deitz graduated from the College of William & Mary with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and kinesiology in 2015 and a master’s in clinical mental health counseling in 2017. He also garnered a Doctor of Philosophy in counselor education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2020. Adding to his credentials, Dr. Deitz received designation as a licensed professional counselor and national certified counselor. He is working toward certification in dialectical behavior therapy, which focuses on emotional regulation and thought processes.

Remaining active in his professional community, Dr. Deitz has been elected as a fellow of the Virginia Counselors Association. He is also an active member of the Virginia Counselor Education Association, the American Counseling Association, and the American Counselor Education and Supervision Association.

In recognition of his success, Dr. Deitz was awarded the Virginia Counselors Association Fellowship in 2019 for his exceptional counselor development. He has also been highlighted several times in articles on mental health in VIP Alexandria Magazine.
