A seasoned medical engineer and academic, Dr. Holman excels as a postdoctoral fellow with Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he specializes in focused ultrasound, a type of noninvasive therapy guided by an MRI machine to ablate tissue and enhance drug delivery. Previously, he worked as a doctoral fellow at the University of Geneva and as a hardware manager for the University of California, San Francisco. Before starting his professional journey, Dr. Holman earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Southern Methodist University. Subsequently, he completed a Master of Science in biomedical engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, a Master of Science in nanoengineering from the University of California, San Diego, and a PhD in life sciences from the University of Geneva.
Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Holman has contributed to various publications, including “Perfluorocarbon emulsion contrast agents: A mini review,” “A novel concept of a phased-array HIFU transducer optimized for MR-guided hepatic ablation: Embodiment and first in-vivo studies” and “Enhancement of HIFU thermal therapy in perfused tissue models using micron-sized FTAC-stabilized PFOB-core endovascular sonosensitizers.”
While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Holman takes the most pride in his contributions to medical research. He was involved in a cutting-edge clinical trial at the University of California, San Francisco that used advanced medical devices to detect early signs of labor during pregnancy and was generously funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to a strong support system, his wife and family, who were instrumental in encouraging him to pursue his dreams, and his PhD advisor, Dr. Salomir. Looking ahead, Dr. Holman intends to push the boundaries of medical research and become a respected professor.
