Drawing on years of professional experience, Dr. Miller presently excels as a chief resident physician at Tulane University’s School of Medicine and as alumni of East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine. Prior to medical school, she served as a lab technician in the Departments of Biochemistry, Physiology, and Pharmacology at Wake Forest Baptist Health, Director of Public Relations at Bull’s Tavern, and a lead teacher for Epiphany Early Childhood Center. During the early stages of her career, Dr. Miller also completed internships in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry through Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem NC, Family Medicine at Piedmont Triad Family Medicine in Kernersville NC, and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. She also spent time studying clinical bioethics with Wake Forest University Department of Bioethics Graduate Program.
Over the years, Dr. Miller expanded upon her knowledge through additional learning opportunities including studying abroad in Spain, Ecuador, and England, and Greece. Outside of her work, she contributed to her community and the field of medicine via mentorship programs at the Brody School of Medicine, Tulane School of Medicine, and the American Medical Women’s Association. An expert in her field, Dr. Miller holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Salem College, a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Bioethics from Wake Forest University, Doctor of Medicine from East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine, two post-MD residencies in Pediatrics and General Psychiatry, and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from Tulane University School of Medicine.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Miller aligns herself with the American Medical Women’s Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – Louisiana Chapter, and the Association of Native American Medical Students; just to name a few.
In light of her outstanding breadth of knowledge, Dr. Miller has co-authored numerous publications, including her first author publication “Alterations in Levels and Ratios of n-3 and n-6 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids in the Temporal Cortex and Liver of Vervet Monkeys from Birth to Early Adulthood,” and more recent projects supporting medical student development as physician scientists in psychiatry. These independently organized and supervisory projects have led to multiple national conference presentations including her international symposium in Toronto, Canada on “Risk Mitigation Strategies in Clinical Case Examples of Adolescents With Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and Suicidality” in collaboration with NYU Langone, Texas Children’s Hospital, and University of Michigan Child and Adolescent Psychiatry experts. Dr. Miller’s local research has been homed in on the need of her New Orleans community leading to additional research topics such as “Factors Associated with High Rates of Recidivism in a New Orleans Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Facility: A closer look into an at-risk population” at the National AMA Meeting in 2023.
An expert in her field, Dr. Miller received the President’s Award in both Psychology and Biology from Salem College, the Malene G. Irons Award from the American Medical Women’s Association, the Ideal Team Player Award from the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, and the Resident of the Year Award from Tulane Pediatrics in 2022.
