Dr. Chakraborty is a distinguished senior data scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), where he has made significant contributions to the field of applied machine learning for energy systems over the past few years. Throughout his career, he has developed a reputation for his expertise in creating advanced algorithms that enhance the functionality and efficiency of energy systems. Dr. Chakraborty’s involvement with LLNL includes working on four projects, writing codes, analyzing data sets to determine suitable machine learning models, overseeing colleagues, and authoring papers and proposals to secure additional funding.

A career journey marked by years of success, Dr. Chakraborty began as an Edison engineer at GE in 2012, followed by several internships and a teaching assistant and graduate research assistant position. Following his doctoral studies, he joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory as an intern in 2017 and later as a staff research scientist from 2018 to 2019. From there, he transitioned to LLNL as a data scientist from 2019 to 2021 before being promoted to his current role. Additionally, since 2022, Dr. Chakraborty has been imparting knowledge as an instructor at Stanford University.

Building upon a solid educational foundation, Dr. Chakraborty earned a master’s degree in technology in mechanical system design from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, followed by a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, a Master of Arts in mathematics, and a Doctor of Philosophy in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida. His academic achievements were complemented by certifications in the fundamentals of leadership training and power plant fundamental training through GE Power.

Throughout his career, Dr. Chakraborty has been an active member of industry-related organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers since 2016. His commitment to professional development and collaboration within such associations underscores his dedication to advancing the field of energy systems.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Chakraborty is committed to personal growth and community involvement. He has also actively supported the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals since 2015.

In light of his success, Dr. Chakraborty received an Outstanding Student Achievement Award from the University of Florida International Centre in 2015 and several research and paper awards from the institution.

Eager for the future of his career, Dr. Chakraborty envisions establishing his own team within the next few years to delve deeper into understanding climate impacts on energy infrastructure. His goal is to minimize adverse effects on human life through more accurate predictions of climate extremes.
