The National Extension College (NEC) is now taking enrolments on two new courses for resit exams in November 2024.
The National Extension College (NEC), a leading name in online and distance learning, has announced the launch of two new GCSE resit courses: GCSE English Language Resit and GCSE Maths Resit. These courses are designed for individuals aiming to achieve Grade 4 or higher in their resit exams scheduled for November 2024.
NEC has a strong, proud heritage of widening access to education and offering essential qualifications like GCSEs and A levels that can be studied flexibly at any time and anywhere. The two new GCSE resit courses are part of NEC’s commitment to help individuals succeed in their education. They are aimed at people who have previously sat and failed their GCSE English Language and/or GCSE Maths exams.
Esther Chesterman, Chief Executive at the National Extension Colleges says:
“As well as hindering their social and emotional skills, COVID-19 has had a detrimental effect on the reading, writing and maths skills of cohorts of children and young adults. The fallout of their disrupted education as a result of the pandemic is being reflected in GCSE exam results and this is likely to continue for some years to come.
“Our two new short, personalised GCSE resit courses have been designed to help these students to resit their English language and/or maths exams and to achieve a Pass at Grade 4 or higher.
“Each course begins with an Introductory Quiz which enables their study to focus on the areas of the subject where help is needed the most, to enable them to successfully resit their exam(s).
“As well as individual students directly looking to resit their exams, the courses are suitable for schools who are looking for resit options for their own students, whilst FE colleges and sixth forms are able to licence NEC course materials.”
Key features of NEC’s GCSE Maths and GCSE English Language resit courses:
- introductory quiz identifying the areas of study to focus on
- personalised 1-2-1 session with an expert tutor
- introductory online seminar and further online group sessions with tutors and peers
- dedicated support for each student from the NEC team and expert tutors who offer support and feedback throughout the course
- access to past exam papers – two for GCSE English Language and three for GCSE Maths
- revision quiz to reinforce learning
- guaranteed exam place at one of NEC’s Partnership Exam Centres.
There is additional support available for students under 18 and for students who have additional needs.
“At NEC, we believe that everybody deserves a chance to achieve their learning goals, no matter their circumstances,” says Esther Chesterman, “there are many forms of support we can offer our students, including guidance around requesting access arrangements for exams, 1-to-1 pastoral support and a dedicated Wellbeing for Learning programme.”
NEC courses are delivered entirely online, allowing students to study at their own pace and fit learning around their schedule, allowing them to plan and manage their study to a timetable that best suits their own personal needs. Because the courses are delivered online there is no need to attend evening or college classes.
