Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai launched an advanced Green War Room on Monday to monitor air pollution in the national capital 24 hours a day, seven days a week and ensure the effective implementation of a winter action plan to reduce it. This war room will operate from the seventh floor of the Delhi Secretariat, where a 12-member team of environmental scientists and other officials will be stationed, the minister said during a press conference here.
“As of today, we have launched an advanced Green War Room that will operate around the clock. It will monitor air pollution levels 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and ensure that all necessary measures are taken to reduce pollution in accordance with the amended GRAP. The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is a series of anti-air pollution measures implemented in the national capital and its surrounding areas based on the severity of the situation.
On Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a 15-point winter action plan to combat pollution in the city.
Minister Rai stated that the war room will also be linked with the Green Delhi App, which will allow residents to send complaints about pollution, such as garbage burning, to the war room. Then, he said, the necessary instructions will be issued to the relevant departments to address the issue.
According to the minister, residents from various parts of the city have filed 54,156 complaints through the Green Delhi App. “Nearly 90% of the 54,156 complaints received have been addressed.” “The MCD receives the most complaints (32,573), followed by the PWD (9,118 complaints), and the DDA (3,333 complaints),” Minister Rai explained.
