Iga Swiatek, the number one player in the world, announced on Monday that she would not represent Poland in the Billie Jean King Cup finals in Glasgow, which will take place next month. Swiatek criticized the sport’s governing bodies for how they handled the tournament schedule.

Swiatek had aided Poland’s advancement to the finals in April, but this year’s tournament will take place from November 8 to 13, just one day after the WTA Finals, which will conclude the season and be held in Fort Worth, Texas.

I gave it a lot of thought and talked it over with my team several times, but I will not be able to participate in the Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow. I’m saddened by it,” the Pole wrote on Instagram.

“I’m very sorry. I always give it my all when I play for Poland, and I always try to do so. It was a privilege to play in Poland this year, and I hoped to do so once more at the end of the campaign.

“I’m disappointed that tennis’ governing bodies couldn’t agree on something so fundamental as the tournament schedule, which would have allowed us to travel around the world in just one day and change the time zone.”

The Billie Jean King Cup, formerly known as the Federation Cup, is run by the International Tennis Federation, whereas the WTA Finals are organized by the women’s tennis organization (ITF).

“Our health is not safe in this situation, and we run the risk of getting hurt. In order to make a change, I’ll speak with the WTA and ITF “Swiatek threw in.

Not just players like me, but also tennis fans who support our sport, find this situation challenging.

Twelve teams will compete for the Billie Jean King Cup in four round-robin groups of three teams each. The group winners advance to the semifinals. Along with the Czech Republic and the United States, Poland is in Group D.
