Mr. Rowley has established himself as a distinguished expert in software engineering, currently serving as a senior principal software engineer at Collins Aerospace. In this role, he leads a team responsible for integrating environmental visual effects into flight simulators, showcasing his ability to code and develop simulations based on natural phenomena. This position marks the latest achievement in a career dedicated to advancing technology and software development within various sectors of the entertainment and aerospace industries.

Prior to joining Collins Aerospace, Mr. Rowley was a lead software engineer staff at Lockheed Martin from 2017 to 2023, where he contributed significantly to projects that demanded high levels of technical expertise and innovation. His career also includes a brief period in 2017 as a freelance consultant software engineer and Maya API trainer for Counter Punch Studios, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to sharing his knowledge with others. That same year, he sought to further his skills through coursework as a web development student at NPower and as a Unity game development student at Game Institute.

Mr. Rowley’s journey into software engineering began after serving as an avionics specialist in the United States Air Force from 1991 to 1997, where he first developed his technical skills and discipline. Following his military service, he embarked on a career that saw him contributing to major projects at renowned companies like Reel FX, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Omation Studios, Dreamworks, ESC Entertainment, and Blue Sky Studios. His roles ranged from senior graphics software engineer to production programmer, each position building upon his expertise in creating visually stunning and technically complex software solutions.

Mr. Rowley’s foundation in computer science was solidified with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County along with producing the first 3D volumetric cloud plug-in for Maya I.O. which was published in the book, “Procedural Modelling & Texturing” by David Ebert, Darwin Peachey, Ken Perlin and Steve Worley. His pursuit of specialized knowledge continued with graphics programming coursework at Game Institute in 2014. Additionally, Mr. Rowley has obtained certifications that underscore his diverse interests and skills outside of software engineering, including a private aircraft pilot license from the Federal Aviation Administration and Linux development certifications from The Linux Foundation.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Rowley hopes to complete the objectives set forth by his current team at Collins Aerospace before entering a well-deserved retirement.
