Qatar Ports Achieve 46% Increase in Container Handling for July

In July 2024, Hamad, Ruwais, and Doha ports achieved impressive performance with a significant increase in container handling. These ports managed a total of 146,752 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers, reflecting a 46% rise compared to July 2023. This substantial growth is primarily due to a remarkable 132% increase in transshipments.

Additional performance highlights for July 2024 include a 271% surge in livestock handling, a 102% increase in roll-on/roll-off (RORO) units, and a 4% rise in vessel arrivals. Overall, general and bulk cargo processed through these ports amounted to 131,982 tonnes. The ports received 235 vessels in total, with key cargo statistics including 12,214 units of containers, 20,302 heads of livestock, and 22,204 tonnes of building materials.

For the first half of 2024, spanning from January to June, the ports collectively handled 706,983 TEUs, marking a 12% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth was driven by a 24% rise in transshipments at Hamad Port, a 39% increase in RORO units, and a 22% rise in livestock handling.

During the first six months of 2024, the ports received 1,323 vessels, and general and bulk cargo shipments reached 931,465 tonnes. The ports also handled 55,944 RORO units, 358,201 heads of livestock, and 171,158 tonnes of building materials. Specifically, QTerminals reported that Hamad Port managed 148,479 TEUs, 98,922 freight tonnes, and 12,192 RORO units in July 2024.

Hamad Port, with its expanding network and state-of-the-art infrastructure, continues to facilitate the efficient movement of goods and transshipments across its terminals. By serving both domestic and international clients, the port enhances the business environment, fosters growth opportunities, and solidifies Qatar’s position in the global market.

As Hamad Port progresses towards becoming a leading global trade hub, it plays a crucial role in supporting Qatar’s National Vision 2030 through its advanced facilities and efficient cargo handling capabilities.
