After meeting a renowned French scientist named Jean Rostand, who was conducting experiments on amphibians fertility, Dr. Perbal invited him to give a conference in the High School in which he was a student, and became inspired by his fascination with scientific pursuits.

Further to this motivating encounter, Dr. Perbal discovered particular charms of Finland and Finnish people, during a stay of several weeks in northern countries which was decisive for his future. In the ensuing years, after he returned to France, he earned a diploma of advanced studies in Enzymology and a Doctorate of Sciences in Biochemistry and Genetics from the University of Paris 7-Denis Diderot. Subsequently, he pursued a postdoctoral stay in Glasgow, at the Institute of Virology of the Western Infirmary before joining the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) as an Attaché and Chargé of research. Additionally, Dr. Perbal gained valuable expertise in research fields of human genetics, molecular and cellular biology, dermatology, and more through educational and executive roles with the University of California, Los Angeles, CNRS, University of Paris, D.Diderot, Wuhan University Institute of Virology, Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli, Insitute of Virology University of Chicago, and the Department of Dermatology, University of Michigan.

Dr. Perbal acquired a strong Publishing and Editing expertise through the managing of the nonprofit International CCN Society that he created in 2000, after his discovery of a founding member of the CCN Family of Genes, and the publication of the “Journal of Cell Communication and Signaling” that he created in 2007.

Over the years, Dr. Perbal expanded his scientific expertise with L’Oréal USA Open Research and the Direction of Research at the L’Oreal Group In Paris. Dedicated to furthering his professional knowledge, after his mandatory french retirement, a Professional Master’s Degree in Economy, Law, and Finance and a Doctorate of Laws from the University of Nice before transferring his skill set to the Ecole des Avocats du Sud-Est where he received a professional lawyer’s certification and a Certificat d’Aptitude à la Profession d’Avocat (CAPA). After taking Oath at the Court of Appeal in Aix en Provence, and joining the Bar of Marseille, Dr. Perbal became Attorney in 2021, and completed his qualifications with National theoretical and practical qualifications in Couple Therapy, Sexology, Adult Psychopathology, Children Affective Development, Gender (2021-2023).

Driven to remain abreast of changes in fields of biomedical research, Dr. Perbal aligned himself with the American Association of Cancer Research, the American Society for Microbiology, the American Society of Virology, and the ICCNS, also known as the International CCN Society. Due to his vast knowledge, he has authored several publications, including “A Practical Guide to Molecular Cloning,” “Molecular Biology of Polyoma and Herpes Viruses” books. Over the past 20 years, Dr. Perbal published more than 200 peered-reviewed articles, and several sound reviews among which “Nov (Nephroblastoma Overexpressed and the CCN Family of Genes: Structural and Functional Issues,” “The CCN Family of Proteins: StructureFunction Relationships” and more recently ” The concept of the CCN protein family revisited: a centralized coordination network” later followed by “Cooperation is the key: the CCN biological system as a gate to high complex protein superfamilies’ signaling.”

Given his outstanding achievements, Dr. Perbal won several awards through the Ligue National Contre le Cancer, the French Academy of Sciences, Concours Général de Sciences Naturelles, and INSERM. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in successfully cloning of a pure Myeloblastosis Associated proviral genome in Los Angeles during the 1980s. The isolation of this viral strain opened doors to a better understanding of the mechanisms of virus-induced cancer. He is also proud of his work which led to the discovery of the first CCN protein devoted of antitumoral activity. Within the coming years, Dr. Perbal intends to experience continued growth and success in his career.
