Ending his career at NASA as the principal investigator for the AI Systems Research Program in 2004, Dr. Siregar went on to create Sofia/Seji Labs to continue his research.
OWINGS MILLS, MD, August 14, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Marquis Who’s Who, the world’s premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Edouard Siregar, PhD with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Edouard Siregar, PhD celebrates many years’ experience in his professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Hailing from decades of experience in mathematical science and research, Dr. Siregar has most recently distinguished himself as the founder of Sofia/Seji Labs LLC. Established in 2015, Sofia/Seji Labs LLC is a research and development firm dedicated to developing a mathematical framework for quantum variational artificial intelligence (AI) that is capable of symbolic human-aligned compassion. Long aware of the tremendous potential and risks that accompany AI development, Dr. Siregar has based much of his research on the principles of SAGE (Symbolic Aligned Guided Empathy), through which he hopes to exert a positive impact on the future of responsible and ethical AI.
Born in France, Dr. Siregar spent most of his childhood moving between France, Spain and New York due to his father’s work with the United Nations. Over the years, he developed a passion for music, particularly the flamenco guitar. Despite his love of music, he also fostered an interest in science. His visits to the New York Museum of Natural History, especially the Hayden Planetarium, sparked his fascination with the natural world. As a teenager, he delved books of Carl Sagan, with whom he later (while at NASA) had a brief exchange about the rogue AI called HAL9000 of “2001, Odyssey,” fueled his interest in responsible artificial intelligence. In 1979, Dr. Siregar completed a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Fourier University. Subsequently, he earned a Master of Science in physics from his alma mater and a PhD in astrophysics from Toulouse University.
In the ensuing years, Dr. Siregar performed a great deal of research in the areas of astrophysics and mathematics in both France and the United States. After serving as an assistant professor of physics at CUNY and Hofstra University, he went on to work in numerous capacities at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, where his research centered on the mathematical models of coherent structures, instabilities and turbulence. Throughout this period, he contributed richly to a greater understanding of nonlinear plasma processes and their application to astrophysics, nonlinear waves, and coherent structures, such as vortex streets. His findings were used to explain observed data from various NASA spacecraft, including the Voyager probe, and were published extensively in a variety of industry publications, including the Journal of Plasma Physics and the Astrophysical Journal, as well as at numerous conferences and symposia. Ending his career at NASA as the principal investigator for the AI Systems Research Program in 2004, Dr. Siregar went on to create Sofia/Seji Labs to continue his research.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Siregar has maintained his affiliation with several organizations, including the American Physical Society. In honor of his contributions to scientific endeavor, he won the National Academy of Science’s National Research Council Award in 1989, and was previously granted a full scholarship for his PhD studies in France.
