As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Hale is an expert in production and design who has significantly contributed to engineering throughout his career. From 1975 to 2016, he headed Scale-Tronix Inc. in Carol Stream, Illinois and White Plains, NY, as the company’s president and founder until his retirement. Over these four decades, he successfully led the company, driving innovation and growth. Under Mr. Hale’s leadership, Scale-Tronix became a prominent name in the industry for manufacturing its high-quality medical scales and weighing systems before being acquired by Welch Allyn Hospital Equipment Company.

Mr. Hale’s entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond Scale-Tronix. In the 1980s, he built a cable television business from a modest 25 customers to over 120, then it was sold to Comcast. He also ventured into the eco-friendly sector by introducing biodegradable bags to the market. Although these bags initially showed promise, they were found to leave behind microplastics. Undeterred, Mr. Hale is now involved with Smart Plastic Technology, which focuses on bio assimilation bags and products that completely disappear within two to three years, leaving only carbon dioxide and water behind.

Before his lengthy career at Scale-Tronix Inc., Mr. Hale was a systems engineer at Toledo Scale between 1967 and 1974. In this role, he was instrumental in developing and improving weighing systems, establishing his reputation as a skilled engineer. Mr. Hale’s work at Toledo Scale demonstrated his ability to integrate complex systems and enhance product functionality.

Mr. Hale began as a design engineer with Motorola Radio Mobile Services in 1959. During this period, he honed his electronic design and development skills, contributing to advancing mobile communication technologies and laying the groundwork for his subsequent roles and achievements. Mr. Hale also found success as a field systems engineer for the organization until 1964.

In preparation for his future, Mr. Hale earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering with a focus on electronics from Purdue University in 1959. His diverse career and entrepreneurial endeavors have left a lasting impact on multiple industries, and he continues to inspire those around him as a respected figure in the engineering and environmental sectors. In light of his accomplishments, Mr. Hale was honored to receive an Honorary Doctorate from DePaul University in Chicago, IL in 2024.
