Before her current role, Ms. Oemig was an of counsel at Ragen Swan PLLC from 2006 to 2012. During this period, she provided legal advice and representation on various complex legal matters, including copyright, trade secrets, rights of publicity, and related issues. Ms. Oemig also garnered success as a senior attorney at Microsoft from 2002 to 2006, where she honed her skills in intellectual property law. Earlier, she was an associate at Fenwick and West between 1999 and 2002, gaining significant experience in copyright law. Ms. Oemig deployed her expertise as the principal author of the defense briefs in RIAA v. Napster, and later as a contributor on amici briefs in MGM v. Grokster. Ms. Oemig’s expertise extends to user-generated content and copyright cases, making her a recognized expert in her industry. Her career in this sector began as a law clerk for The Honorable D. Lowell Jensen at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California from 1998 to 1999.

Ms. Oemig’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in English and creative writing from the University of Idaho in 1991 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of California at Berkeley in 1998. In addition to her formal education, she obtained Montessori certification for ages three to six and an emergency teaching certification, reflecting her diverse skill set and commitment to continuous learning.

Besides her full-time commitments, Ms. Oemig is recognized as an attorney and counselor with the Washington State Bar Association. As a legal professional she has served on various committees, most recently on the vendor committee of the Student Data Privacy Alliance, where she contributes her expertise to improve standardized data privacy agreements. Meanwhile, Ms. Oemig’s dedication to community service is evident through her contributions to various parent teacher associations, and in coaching youth orienteering teams.
