Mr. Pickard is a distinguished trial lawyer with over four decades of experience in the legal profession. He has spent most of his career practicing general and diversified civil and criminal law at Pickard Law, P.C., where he began in 1986. Before venturing into the legal industry, he commenced his career as a sales representative for Burroughs from 1978 to 1979. He then served as an assistant county attorney for Jefferson County from 1983 to 1986 before establishing his private practice.

Throughout his career, Mr. Pickard has achieved numerous significant feats. He is particularly proud of his victory in a child abuse case where he successfully convinced the district attorney, after two jury trials, that his client was a good person who simply made a mistake, and should be offered probation. Over his career, he has tried over 100 cases before juries. He is also proud of his son, Jay Pickard, who now practices with him at the firm.

Mr. Pickard’s expertise as a general practitioner (including, but limited to family law, wrongful death, medical malpractice, criminal defense, plaintiff’s personal injury, worker’s compensation, trials and appeals) in federal and state courts) has earned him recognition and respect within the legal community. He is or has been a member of several prestigious organizations, including the Federal Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association and the National Association of Counsel for Children. Additionally, he has held several leadership roles, such as vice president of the Colorado Bar Association from 2008 to 2009, president of the 1st JD Bar Association from 2005 to 2006 and president of the Pinehurst Country Club from 2017 to 2018.

Mr. Pickard’s educational background laid a strong foundation for his successful career. He earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1982 and a Bachelor of Business Administration in management, summa cum laude, from the University of the Incarnate Word in 1977. His legal credentials also include admissions to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, the United States District Court District of Colorado and the Colorado Supreme Court.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Pickard is deeply committed to civic engagement and pro bono work. He co-founded the Turelli Foundation in 2012, and as a speech and debate mentor at Mullen High School from 1978 to 2001. He has also volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and coached baseball for the Bear Creek Junior Sports Association. Utilizing his professional skillset, he has contributed pro bono to the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, ISPCAN, Metro Volunteer Lawyers and the Colorado Supreme Court Pro Bono Commitment.

Mr. Pickard’s accolades include being named among Super Lawyers since 2018, receiving the Award of Merit from the 1st Judicial District Bar Association in 2017 and earning the Linda T. Palmieri Award for Outstanding Service on Behalf of Children from the 1st Judicial District Bar Association in 2009. He also holds an AV Rating from Martindale-Hubbell and a 10.0 Superb Rated Lawyer designation from Avvo Inc.

Mr. Pickard has further contributed to his field through written publications, including “Who Are We?” in Trial Talk, “The Child’s Wishes in APR Proceedings: An Evidentiary Conundrum” in The Colorado Lawyer and contributions to “Your Hub,” a community section of The Denver Post.

Outside his career, Mr. Pickard enjoys golf, travel and spending time with his family in his personal life. Reflecting on his career, he attributes much of his success to having good connections with numerous mentors. His passion for law stems from his desire to help people, making him the first member of his family to enter this field. Looking ahead, he aims to grow his firm further and eventually turn it over to his son.
