In addition to her primary role, Dr. Sharkey has been the founder and chief quantum science officer of Quantum Awareness, Security and Resilience since 2022. Additionally, she founded ODE, L3C in 2018 and has served as a designated campus colleague at The University of Arizona since 2015. Prior to her current positions, she was a research analyst at Imprezzio Inc. in 2018 and a postdoctoral faculty member at Washington State University in the previous years. Earlier in her career, she contributed as a teacher’s laboratory assistant in general chemistry and an upper-division physical chemistry grader at The University of Arizona from 2009 to 2012.

In addition, Dr. Sharkey was a high school teacher at Desert Hills High School from 2015 to 2016 and an adjunct faculty member at Utah Tech University during the same period. She also served as a chemistry operations consultant for NimbusWorks from 2015 to 2016 and as a chemical laboratory specialist at Pima Community College in 2009. She served as a faculty advisor for Pullman School District from 2017 to 2018 and was an honorary member of Kiwanis International during the same period.

Academically, Dr. Sharkey earned her Doctor of Philosophy in chemical physics from the University of Arizona in 2015 after completing summer school in theoretical chemistry at the Telluride Science Research Center that same year. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and mathematics from the University of Arizona, obtained in 2010. Her certifications include preventing harassment and discrimination from the University of Arizona, conflict of interest handling from IEEE, understanding IEEE SA’s antitrust policies, National Science Foundation Innovation Corps certification from Cornell University through participation in the NSF I-Corps Program.

In honor of her accomplishments, Dr. Sharkey has been recognized as one of the “40 under 40” for women in cybersecurity by Cyber Express 2024 and “40 under 40” in cybersecurity 2023 by Capitol Tech University. Dr. Keeper Sharkey’s dedication to her field is also evident through her numerous publications, with over thirty articles published in professional journals, and numerous presentations at prestigious conferences like Quantum Tech Boston and Molecular Quantum Mechanics Congress. Her projects include groundbreaking work on rotational states of diatomic molecules without the Born-Oppenheimer approximation and variational calculations of the rovibrational spectrum of small atoms and molecules where her PhD work was primarily funded by National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship program.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dr. Sharkey is actively involved in various industry-related organizations. She chairs the Quantum Technologies & Cybersecurity Cross-Sector Council for InfraGard National Members Alliance and IEEE P1947 Quantum Cybersecurity Framework. Her company is a co-founding member of The Quantum Economic Development Consortium and is affiliated with both the American Physical Society and the American Chemical Society.

Dr. Sharkey’s contributions extend to civic associations as well. She has been a panelist for Chemical Marketing and Economics since 2022 and for All Hazards Consortium since 2023 as well as National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Additionally – “Theoretical Chemistry to Enhance Quantum Information Science” in 2022.

As a child, Dr. Sharkey’s early exposure to quantum physics on an Air Force base inspired her lifelong passion for chemistry and quantum theory. Despite personal challenges, including losing her grandfather due to atomic testing exposure, she pursued her interests with determination. Her future goals include attaining a role as a professor of practice to collaborate globally on quantum-related topics while continuing her consultancy work to enhance sustainability through quantum computing advancements.
