Her team’s duties include scrutinizing single audit reports from recipients’ internal auditors to identify any potential internal control deficiencies or instances of misuse of government funds. Before joining her agency, Ms. Brown was an auditor at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration from 2020 to 2021. She also garnered success as a supervisory auditor at the Defense Contract Audit Agency in Rockville, Maryland, between 2014 and 2020, after initially joining the agency as an auditor in 2009. Ms. Brown began her career as an auditor with Diego Perdomo & Company in 2003.
Ms. Brown’s foundation in accounting was established when she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from the University of Puerto Rico in 2003. Further enhancing her credentials, she obtained certifications as a certified fraud examiner through the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and as a certified public accountant through the Virginia Board of Accountancy. These qualifications have been instrumental in Ms. Brown’s success and have played a pivotal role in enabling her to tackle complex challenges throughout her career.
In addition to her education, Ms. Brown is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Washington Metropolitan chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Outside of her professional life, she is deeply involved in her community through various extracurricular activities. She is a choir member at a local Catholic church and performs with two salsa groups across Maryland. Additionally, Ms. Brown contributes to the democratic process as an election judge and polling place coordinator. She manages to accomplish all of this while she is a mother and wife as well.
