Furthermore, Dr. Angwenyi is a Classroom Teachers for Teachers ambassador and a Peace Teacher with the United States Institute of Peace program.
In addition to his prominent role as an educator, Dr. Angwenyi is an expert in travel and tourism, serving as the founder and chief executive officer of GCK Travel since 2011. In this role, he develops travel itineraries that foster authentic connections between travelers and Kenyan communities. He was initially inspired to form GCK Travel through his experience leading a service learning trip to his home village in 2007, where he facilitated high school students’ collaboration in developing projects to improve local village life.
Concurrently, Dr. Angwenyi has been a teacher in the Hopewell Valley School District since 2004, educating students on various STEM topics and organizing events and activities that connect students from different communities. His earlier career included LATG and research roles at Sanofi-aventis from 2000 to 2004, covering topics such as drug safety and evaluation studies.
Before embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Angwenyi pursued higher education. His academic experience started with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Saint Peter’s University, which he earned in 1997. He then obtained a master’s degree in science education from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in 2004, followed by a PhD in educational leadership and administration from Capella University in 2014.
Beyond his formal education, Dr. Angwenyi holds several certifications. His most prominent certifications include completion of the Leadership and Character in Uncertain Times program from the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education, as well as participation in the Global Teaching Dialogue from the U.S. Department of State and IREX. Dr. Angwenyi also holds the New Jersey Principal Certificate of Eligibility, among numerous other accreditations, reflecting his unwavering devotion to educational excellence.
As a commitment to his field, Dr. Angwenyi has been active with several industry-related organizations, including his experience as a board member of the New Jersey Mercer County Special Services School District since 2022. Furthermore, he is affiliated with the National Education Association, American Scientist Association and Association for Curriculum Development.
Dr. Angwenyi’s civic contributions are equally impressive. He founded Global Connections Foundation NJ Corp in 2015 and co-founded the Hopewell-Keroka Alliance in 2008. Through these organizations, he has made a significant impact on both local and international communities by promoting educational opportunities and fostering community development.
Throughout his career, Dr. Angwenyi has received numerous awards recognizing his contributions to education and community service. His notable honors include being named one of the Top 100 Visionaries in Education by the Global Foundation Education Leadership Program in 2021 and receiving the Best Teaching Practices on Global Issues Award from the Committee on Teaching About the United Nations in 2010. Moreover, Dr. Angwenyi was honored by Men Impact Change in 2018, among others.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Angwenyi is passionate about community development, staying informed on current affairs and politics, playing soccer and traveling. He is also deeply committed to fostering intentional friendships that celebrate each person’s unique gifts and potential to contribute to positive global change. Currently working on his autobiography, Dr. Angwenyi anticipates its publication within the next year or two, providing deeper insights into his remarkable journey and achievements.
