Star Wars Celebration 2023, held in London on April 7th, had a slew of surprises from the Lucasfilm galaxy far, far away, ranging from new information on TV shows and movies. This year’s event coincides with the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi and releases details of three new theatrical films, a teaser for the Rosario Dawson-led film Ahsoka limited series and exclusive first looks Star Wars: The Acolyte And Andor season 2 for the participants of the event. The upcoming Star Wars films would be the first in the franchise to grace the big screen since 2019 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Since then we’ve only had Disney+ shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

For your convenience, we’ve listed the biggest movie, TV, and gaming news below Star Wars Celebration 2023:

Three new Star Wars movies confirmed

Daisy Ridley is poised to reprise her role as Rey Skywalker in the long pregnancy war of stars Movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy (Mrs Miracle). Development on this film has been in limbo for some time, where initially Disney rented Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Justin Britt-Gibson (Counterpart) to write the screenplay. However, she left the project last month, paving the way for Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) to take over. Set 15 years after the events of The Rise of the Skywalker, the untitled film follows Rey’s struggle to create a new Jedi order through the recruitment of Force-sensitive warriors.

David Filoni – best known for co-creation The Mandalorian – directs the second Star Wars film set in the same timeline as that Disney+ shows. A blog entry notes that the film will focus on the New Republic and “conclude the connected stories” told in its other shows. Jon Favreau previously confirmed that all upcoming shows, including the Jude Law led skeleton crewtake place within the same period, so it’s not uncommon for his work partner Filoni’s film to follow suit. The entire arc and its characters’ interactions have already been designed, and Favreau has already finished writing it The Mandalorian season 4.

Then there is a third of Jacob Mangold (logan), which dates back to the beginnings of the Jedi – 25,000 years before the sequels. There is no release window for any of these films, and this update comes a while after Patty Jenkins’ rogue squadron was quietly removed from Disney’s production schedule. “Rogue Squadron, that’s definitely something we’re still talking about. Whether it’s a movie or whether it ends up in the series space, that’s definitely something.” Lucasfilm said President Kathleen Kennedy at the event.

In the meantime, Taika Waititi is still writing his standalone Star Wars film, with Kennedy adding that he “don’t really want to involve others in the process.”

Ahsoka teaser and release window

Ahsoka finally got a teaser trailer at Star Wars Celebration 2023 emphasizing the titular Jedi (Rosario Dawson) next adventure while awaiting the return of Admiral Thrawn – though it’s unclear who is playing him. The women of Star Wars: Rebels are the focus of the series, with Maria Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) as Pilot General Hera Syndulla and Natasha Liu Bordizzo (Guns Akimbo) as Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren. In the trailer, Ahsoka can also be seen fighting Ray Stevenson’s Baylon in a dark arena, alongside a brief glimpse of Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), one of the founders of the Rebel Alliance, who played an important role in the fight against the Empire.

Ahsoka launches on Disney+ in August and Disney+ Hotstar.
