Ms. Reid is recognized for her 18 years of professional experience in advocacy and government affairs. She currently serves as the Director of Advocacy and Government Affairs at the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA). In this role, she manages and coordinates policy and legislative advocacy efforts, advocates for NFHA’s policy positions in support fair housing and fair lending policies at the federal and state levels, ensuring that the Fair Housing Act of 1968 is upheld.

Before her role at NFHA, her current position, Ms. Reid spent nearly a decade at the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, where she served as the Senior Director of Advocacy from 2015 to 2024. In this capacity, she oversaw the organization’s state criminal justice reform efforts and day-to-day grassroots operations, notably working on criminal discovery reform in Virginia. This significant achievement brought Virginia’s discovery rules more closely aligned with other states, providing far greater pretrial disclosure requirements by prosecutors, providing defense attorneys with crucial information before trials.

Her extensive experience has made her an expert in fair housing, social justice and criminal justice issues.

In preparation for her future, Ms. Reid received a Bachelor of Arts in Government and International Politics and Economics from George Mason University in 2006 and a Master of Public Administration in 2009. She also completed executive education programs, including the Women’s Leadership Program at Yale School of Management Executive Education and the Minority Political Leadership Institute at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Ms. Reid has been involved in several civic organizations, working to promote civic awareness, political engagement, and advocacy. For several years she served as convener for the Northern Virginia Coalition, which worked to register and engage Black voters in Northern Virginia, and co-chaired the committee on public safety and criminal justice for the Virginia African American Advisory Board from 2019 to 2023. Ms. Reid has also contributed to several publications and projects, including “NOVA Votes 2012: Educating and Encouraging the Black Vote,” a nonpartisan voter engagement campaign; and a number of political forums, legal clinics and expungement fairs.

Highlighting her contributions, Ms. Reid has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Ebony Image Award for Government/Politics from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc., Northern Virginia chapter, in 2020 and the Top 40 Under 40 Award from George Mason University Black Alumni Chapter in 2023. She also received multiple accolades for her leadership and social action efforts.

Ms. Reid’s dedication to social justice was influenced by her early experiences with her local NAACP branch, which sparked her interest in social justice and led her to pursue a career focused on protecting vulnerable communities.

Committed to continuously working collaboratively on issues such as housing, criminal justice and social justice, Ms. Reid aims to ensure that institutions uphold core values regarding the treatment of people of color and address past discrimination through public policy and coalition building. She attributes her success thus far to mentorships that have contributed significantly to her professional development.
