U.S. President-elect Donald J. Trump has named as the secretary of transportation Sean Duffy, a former Republican congressman from Wisconsin, and co-host on Fox Business, reports The Guardian. Duffy was also a former cast member of the MTV show “The Real World.” He left his Fox Business role on November 18, according to Fox News Media.
Duffy will oversee about a $110 billion budget, as well as significant funding remaining under the Biden administration’s 2021 $1 trillion infrastructure law.
Duffy served in Congress from 2011 until 2019. Before being elected to public office, he was district attorney for Ashland county, Wisconsin, from 2002 to 2008. Duffy was a cast member on “The Real World: Boston” in 1997, during which he met his wife, Fox news contributor Rachel Campos-Duffy.
“He will prioritize excellence, competence, competitiveness and beauty when rebuilding America’s highways, tunnels, bridges and airports,” the president-elect said in a statement announcing the nomination. “He will ensure our ports and dams serve our economy without compromising our national security, and he will make our skies safe again by eliminating DEI for pilots and air traffic controllers.”
Trump has vowed to undo the Biden administration’s stringent emissions regulations finalized earlier in 2024 as soon as he takes office. The rules cut tailpipe emissions limits by 50% from 2026 levels by 2032.
In a March 2017 op-ed Duffy penned for the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the former congressman praised Trump’s dedication to working with conglomerates such as Ford, General Motors and Walmart to combine efforts to “reinvest in America.”
