Dr. Lwin is an esteemed health economist who has dedicated his career to advancing public health and economic development. He has been a research associate at Brandeis University for nine years, significantly contributing to his area of expertise. Dr. Lwin’s work involves assessing the impact of development projects, strategizing financial benefits and planning expenses to prevent abuse and alcoholism. His efforts have notably benefited marginalized communities and those affected by foster abuse. In addition to researching on campus, Dr. Lwin has been a visiting scholar at the Hellen School for Social Policy and Management since 2016.

Dr. Lwin’s career began as a medical representative for Nicholas Pharmaceutical Company in India from 1998 to 1999. He then served as a residential medical doctor for the Ministry of Health in Myanmar between 2000 and 2001 and as a product executive at Royal Ruby Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. from 2001 to 2004. Dr. Lwin’s commitment to community health led him to roles with Doctors without Borders, first with MSF-France from 2004 to 2005 and then with MSF-Holland in 2005.

In 2006, Dr. Lwin led the HIV health education team for Aide Medicale Internationale in France. He later joined The AEDES Group as a junior consultant and expert II from 2011 to 2012. His expertise in health economics was further honed through consultancy roles with the Lymphatic Filariasis Support Center and Futures Group International between 2009 and 2013, worked as an immunization supply chain financing consultant for UNICEF from 2016 to 2017 and was an international consultant and expert for data analysis with the United Nations Development Programme between 2017 and 2018.

Dr. Lwin’s academic journey included an international diploma in computer studies from the National Computing Center in the U.K. in 1993, followed by a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Medicine Yangon in 2000. He then pursued a Master of Science in international health policy and management at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management graduating in 2007 and some graduate courses in social policy and management with a concentration in global health and development from Brandeis University in 2010.

Active in his community, Dr. Lwin is an associate member of Sigma Xi, reflecting his commitment to professional development. As a seasoned researcher, his scholarly work includes authoring and co-authoring numerous articles in such publications as Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior and Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly. He also contributed to “Estimating Lives and Dollars Saved from Universal Adoption of the Leapfrog Safety and Quality Standards: 2008 Update” via the Leapfrog Group in Washington, D.C.

Throughout his career, Dr. Lwin has been recognized for his contributions to preventive health services and social protection programs. His dedication to public health, extensive experience, and academic achievements underscore his significant impact on national and international levels.

Looking ahead, Dr. Lwin envisions numerous vaccine programs across the U.S. He is keen on exploring effectiveness of preventive and protection services further and conducting additional studies in health care. With several unpublished studies in the social protection and health care fields, he is also collaborating with colleagues at The Heller School to establish partnerships with publishers for his projects.
