Before establishing Net Genius Inc., Mr. Singleton served as a police officer and detective with the Dalworthington Gardens Police Department from 2005 to 2016. Mr. Singleton was awarded the department’s two most prestigious awards, in addition to rookie of the year, officer of the year three times, and multiple awards for meritorious conduct. Mr. Singleton led his department in felony arrests every year of his tenure. He created the department’s first asset forfeiture program, seizing valuable assets from drug smugglers. Mr. Singleton continues to be a source of knowledge for his department. Mr. Singleton’s tenure as a detective was followed by his role as the Vice President at StreetCred Software Inc. between 2014 and 2016, where he leveraged his law enforcement experience to develop software solutions for tracking fugitives.
Mr. Singleton’s career also includes a period with the U.S. Marshals Service from 2008 to 2010. This role enriched his understanding of law enforcement operations and the role of federal officers in the criminal justice system.
Mr. Singleton’s transition from law enforcement to IT management was facilitated by his collaboration with the network administrator at his police department, who later became his business partner.
Mr. Singleton’s educational background includes graduating from Arlington High School in 1998, completing coursework at the University of Texas at Arlington from 1998 to 2001 and receiving a diploma in law enforcement from Tarrant County BPOA in 2005, and certification from TCLEOSE (now TCOLE). Mr. Singleton also completed Fire School at the Training Division, was awarded a diploma in Structure Fire Fighting, and received a Firefighter I and Firefighter II certifications from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) in 2008. Mr. Singleton also attended the EMT-Basic academy, where he completed coursework on emergency medicine, and was awarded the Emergency Medical Technician License by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) program.
Mr. Singleton has continued to involve himself in law enforcement activities, including hosting the NYPD Counter Intelligence & Counterterrorism conference in 2018. The most elite members of law enforcement and military intelligence from around the world attended this conference. Mr. Singleton also contributes to the efforts of the National Child Protection Task Force, which is led by an associate of his, and is focused on finding and rescuing children who have been abducted.
Mr. Singleton is recognized for his contributions to literature and media. In 2016, he co-authored “In Context: Understanding Police Killings of Unarmed Civilians,” a book that examines every case in 2015, in which an unarmed civilian was killed by police. He has also authored many articles in both national and local print media, and is the cyber security expert for the CBS 11’s i-Team, frequently appearing in investigative reports.
