Before accepting his current appointment, Dr. Roberts held a series of key roles at Morehouse School of Medicine. From 2021 to 2023, he was the director of finance and administration at the Neuroscience Institute, where he managed financial operations and administrative functions. Before that, he contributed to process improvement initiatives as part of the sponsored research improvement team from 2020 to 2021. As the manager of research administration shared service from 2019 to 2020, Dr. Roberts played a fundamental role in streamlining research administration processes.

Dr. Roberts’s career also includes significant experience at Emory University, where he served as a senior research administrator from 2016 to 2018 and as the manager of post-award from 2013 to 2016. His tenure at Emory began in 2007 as a senior research financial analyst, and he subsequently advanced to the rank of associate director of both the grants finance service center and financial operations for natural sciences. Earlier in his career, Dr. Roberts honed his skills as a grant financial analyst at The Carter Center and as a senior grant accountant at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Roberts remains actively involved in industry-related organizations such as the Research Administrators Certification Council, the Society of Research Administrators International, the National Council of University Research Administrators and the Project Management Institute. Dr. Roberts’s dedication to advancing research administration is further evidenced by his authorship of signature publications like “Building Capacity for Grants and Sponsored Projects in a Culture of Compliance” and “Servant Leadership and Research Administration, Creating Serving Cultures.”

Exceptional academic achievements further define Dr. Roberts’s profile. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Clark Atlanta University in 1991 before pursuing graduate studies. He now proudly holds a Master of Theology from the Dallas Theological Seminary, which he earned in 2005, and Dr. Roberts completed a PhD in business and leadership from Beulah Heights University in 2019.

Outside his professional life, Dr. Roberts sustains a deep commitment to mentoring future generations through programs like Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy Connect Mentoring and Braven. He achieves balance by exercising, watching documentaries, reading and exploring technology, and he is dedicated to remaining informed on current events and engaging with sports. Looking toward the future, Dr. Roberts is preparing to sit for the certified public accountant exam and aspires to author books about his professional experiences in leadership. Notably, he envisions becoming a consultant or speaker and plans to build his faith through recording Biblical Bible lessons on Christian networks, podcasts and publishing materials that can contribute to the growth and development of local churches worldwide.
