Elon Musk is off to counter Microsoft and Google’s artificial intelligence efforts with “truth-seeking AI” that eschews political correctness, he said during an interview that aired late Monday.

The billionaire boss of Twitter and Tesla again voiced his concerns about the danger AIand said it had “the potential for civilizational destruction”.

He said he was also concerned that the ChatGPT Bot created from start OpenAI was taught to be politically correct.

“I’m going to launch something called TruthGPT, or an absolutely truth-seeking AI that’s trying to understand the nature of the universe,” Musk said.

He argued that the AI would see humans as an interesting part of the universe and decide “not to destroy humans”.

According to business documents, Musk has founded an X.AI artificial intelligence company based in the US state of Nevada.

He recently merged Twitter with a newly formed “X” shell company, keeping the brand name for the platform but not the business.

Musk’s founding of a rival to OpenAI came weeks before he joined experts in signing an open letter calling for a general pause in AI technology development.

Signatories argued that the pause should be used to strengthen regulation and ensure AI systems are secure.

However, critics called the letter a “hot mess” of “AI hype” that misrepresents a scientific work.

Big tech companies like Google, Meta, and Microsoft have been working on AI systems — formerly known as machine learning or big data — for years to help with translation, search, and targeted advertising.

Musk said he was once close friends with Google co-founder Larry Page, and the two talked late into the night about AI security.

“He really seemed to want a digital superintelligence, basically a digital god, as soon as possible,” Musk said of Page.

“You can’t just run forward and hope for the best.”

Late last year, OpenAI increased interest in AI with the introduction of ChatGPT, which can generate natural-sounding text from a short command prompt.

Musk co-founded OpenAI but left the company in 2018.

Microsoft has since announced that it has invested billions of dollars in OpenAI and used its technology in its Am Internet search service.
