Her down-to-earth approach and commitment to empathetic representation define her firm’s practice style.
NEW YORK, NY, December 17, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Sharon K. Khunkhun, Esq., has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Khunkhun is a distinguished attorney specializing in marriage and family immigration law, and she has served as the president of her boutique law firm, Khunkhun Law, since 2011. With over 20 years of experience, she has dedicated her career to reuniting families through immigration advocacy. Her down-to-earth approach and commitment to empathetic representation define her firm’s practice style. With meticulous attention to detail, she represents clients from all family structures, including traditional, multicultural, and same-sex couples. Under her leadership, Khunkhun Law has pioneered a new model of advocacy that emphasizes transformative client interactions, combining legal excellence with deep compassion to set a new standard in the field.
Ms. Khunkhun was born in London, U.K., and immigrated to the U.S. with her family as a teenager. Her journey in law began with her role as a Court Attorney to Hon. Judge Denis Butler in Queens County Civil Court and Queens County Criminal Court from 2001 to 2003. She then worked as an associate at Rivkin Radler LLP from 2003 to 2007 and later at Berkman, Henoch, Peterson & Peddy P.C. from 2007 to 2010. In 2008, she co-founded SEVA, an organization dedicated to civic engagement, youth empowerment, and access to public services for seniors and immigrant communities in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY. The organization received support from the New York Foundation and won numerous awards, including the Union Square Award.
Ms. Khunkhun’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in biology and history from Stony Brook University in 1997 and a Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law in 2001. Licensed to practice in New York, she skillfully represents immigration clients across all 50 states. In 2003, Ms. Khunkhun also sat for the US Patent & Trademark Office Bar Exam and is a registered Patent Attorney. Her legal acumen is supported by curiosity and a commitment to integrity and authenticity, which have guided her through numerous challenges during her career. Ms. Khunkhun also serves as a mentor, dedicated to being a role model for those she advises.
In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Khunkhun is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and co-founder of the South Asian Indo-Caribbean Bar Association. Her commitment to positively impacting people’s lives is evident through her work with SEVA and her legal practice. One of Ms. Khunkhun’s most poignant cases involved advocating for an undocumented client whose lack of legal status prevented her from accessing life-saving health care, such as being placed on the kidney transplant list. For three years, Ms. Khunkhun fought tirelessly to secure the client’s green card, knowing it represented not just legal recognition but the possibility of a second chance at life. The day she delivered the green card to her client was one of her most joyful moments. Tragically, the client passed away shortly after gaining legal status. In a profound gesture, her husband shared that they would place the green card in her coffin, a testament to how much it symbolized hope and dignity. The experience left a lasting impression on Ms. Khunkhun and reinforced the meaningful nature of her work.
Outside of her career, Ms. Khunkhun enjoys cooking, working with textiles, reading post-colonial literature and history, exploring the existential mysteries of quantum physics, and practicing mindfulness through meditation. Looking ahead, she plans to further excel in her legal practice while emphasizing the human aspect of lawyering. Having personally experienced the negative consequences of unscrupulous legal representation, leading her to be undocumented for many of her teenage years, she understands the importance of trustworthy legal counsel. She aims to ensure that people feel comfortable with their legal representatives and are treated with respect, especially in areas where individuals may feel vulnerable.
