With a wealth of over 50 years of experience in law and business, Mr. Prezant is presently a senior adviser to Blue Owl Capital, an investment asset management company. He also serves as of counsel for the law firm Prezant & Mollath, where he has specialized in administrative, business, and fiduciary law. Until July of this year, he served as a two term appointee of Governor Gavin Newsom on the California State Teachers Retirement Board. While serving as a Board Trustee, he chaired the investment and governance committees.
Mr. Prezant earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Southern California in 1968. Subsequently, he received a JD from Georgetown University Law Center before being admitted to the Colorado, Nevada, and California Bar Associations. Bill practiced with a major national law firm in San Francisco (Pettit & Martin). Deciding he needed to “re-pot” himself, Bill moved back to Nevada, his home state. There he began to use his legal background to counsel businesses as well as public office holders and community organizations, serving as counsel for the Catholic health care system for Northern Nevada, the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners, the Fiscal Advisory Board for the City of Reno, Nature Conservancy (Great Basin Chapter), Desert Research Institute, Citizens’ Advisory Committee to Nevada Secretary of State, and Trustee on the Board of Sierra Nevada College.
The love of the visual arts provided Mr. Prezant with the opportunity to serve on the Trustees Council for the National Gallery of Art and the Board of Trustees for the Nevada Museum of Art.
In the early 1990’s Bill began to represent two large family trusts (Gordon Getty family) where in addition to counseling on fiduciary issues, he began to review and assist in the administration of the alternative asset portfolio.
Mr. Prezant has served on numerous for-profit boards representing a variety of businesses including Strategic Hotels & Resorts where he served as Chairman during the global financial crises (2007), Director (2006-2016), Hambrecht Partners Holding (financial services), Forward Management (financial services), Torrey Partners (financial services), and MacGregor Golf.
While Mr. Prezant’s career is filled with numerous highlights, he takes the most pride in his unwavering commitment to serve his community. He considers his greatest achievement is being a good citizen and understanding that our systems of government and economics are participatory sports.
