Before his tenure with the District of Columbia Public Schools, Mr. Mpoy served as a legal researcher at the law firm of Sloan and Associates PLLC, beginning in 2003, after having worked as Government Affairs Assistant at the International Association for Drilling Contractors in Washington, DC, from 1997 to 2002. In these capacities, he honed his analytical skills and developed a keen understanding of regulatory frameworks, which later informed his approach to special education. His work as a legal researcher provided him with a strong foundation in navigating complex legal landscapes, a skill that has been invaluable in his teaching career.
Mr. Mpoy’s academic journey began at Winston Churchill High School after relocating to the United States from the Democratic Republic of the Congo at age 14. He pursued a Bachelor of Science in development economics from West Virginia University Institute of Technology, followed by a Master of Science in finance from American University. In 2015, he earned a Master of Arts in education from The George Washington University. These academic achievements have equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of both economic and educational systems, enhancing his ability to contribute effectively to educational models.
As a licensed special education teacher, Mr. Mpoy attributes his success to his unwavering dedication to his students. He believes that while subject matter expertise is important, true effectiveness lies in fostering students’ willingness to learn.
