Virat Kohli slams 72nd international ton, passes Ricky Ponting and finishes second to Sachin Tendulkar

NEW DELHI: Batting virtuoso Virat Kohli produced a masterclass in batting on Saturday when he struck his 44th one-day international century against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
With the sparkling barrel, Kohli surpassed the legendary Australian top order batter Ricky Ponting (71) in relation to the most hundred in international cricket. Kohli now has 72 international centuries across the three formats combined and is now second only to Iconic Sachin Tendulkar (100 hundred).
The century against Bangladesh is now Virat’s first in the ODIs since August 2019.

Kohli’s 113 of 91 balls were laced with 11 fours and a few sixes and had a hit rate of over 124.
Along with opener Ishan Kishan, who smashed 210 balls from 131, Virat added 290 runs for the second wicket while India amassed 409 for 8 in the insignificant third ODI – their fourth-highest ODI total of all time.

During the Chattogram Running Festival, Kohli also completed 1,000 ODI runs in Bangladesh, becoming only the second player to do so, after Australian Shane Watson.
Earlier in August, Kohli scored his first T20I Century at the Asian Cup against Afghanistan. The century for Virat against the Afghans broke a three-year century drought for Virat.
Kohli was also the top run-getter at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia where he accumulated 296 runs in 6 games. India exited the tournament in the semifinals after suffering a 10-wicket loss.
