With a decade of experience, she serves as the Director of Access and Accommodation Services at Arkansas State University.
STATE UNIVERSITY, AR, January 23, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — Dominique A. White, EdD, LPC, CRC, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. White has established herself as a prominent figure in the field of disability access, higher education and mental health services. With a decade of experience, she serves as the Director of Access and Accommodation Services at Arkansas State University, where she is also a disability access counselor. Her role involves supporting students with various disabilities, ensuring they have equal opportunities to participate in all aspects of campus life. Her dedication to accessibility led her to develop a captioning operating procedure, approved by the university in 2023, which mandates captioning for all instructional video content.
Dr. White’s career began at Arkansas State University as a tutor for the Upward Bound program from 2009 to 2010. She then served as a graduate assistant in the Department of Criminology, Sociology and Geography from 2010 to 2011. In 2012, she transitioned to an academic coach role within Learning Support Services until 2014. Concurrently, she worked as a graduate assistant in Career Services in 2014. In November of 2014, she was hired as an education counselor in Disability Services and advanced within the office. She now serves as the Director of Access and Accommodation Services (formerly Disability Services). Beyond her work at A-State, she provides part-time mental health counseling through telehealth services.
Dr. White’s expertise is recognized through her active involvement with industry-related organizations such as the Arkansas Association on Higher Education and Disability (Ark-AHEAD), an affiliate of the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD), the leading professional membership association for individuals committed to equity for persons with disabilities in higher education.Within Ark-AHEAD, she has held leadership roles including vice president, president and past president. She is a member of several mental health professional organizations and serves on various committees on campus in an effort to expand accessibility and support student outcomes. Her commitment to professional development is further evidenced by her status as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and her recently obtained EdD in higher education from Walden University.
As alluded to, her educational background is extensive and diverse. Dr. White earned her Doctor of Education in higher education from Walden University in 2024. She holds an Educational Specialist degree in psychology and counseling with a focus on mental health counseling from Arkansas State University, completed in 2014. She also obtained a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2020 and a Master of Arts in sociology from Arkansas State University in 2012. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Arkansas State University in 2010.
Dr. White attributes much of her career success to the mentorship she receives from women supervisors who encouraged her to take risks and advocate for herself throughout her advancement. She also attributes her success to previous professors who have become unknowing mentors and sources of support as well as her faith. Her natural empathy and listening skills drew her to counseling, where she found her calling in counseling and disability advocacy after taking an introductory class that resonated deeply with her.
Through her personal experience as an individual with a mild form of cerebral palsy, Dr. White was initially reluctant to embrace her own disability status or engage with disability services as an undergraduate college student. However, her perspective changed when she began working in the office. Through her interactions with students, she came to understand that they—and she—are not lesser individuals because of their disabilities. In fact, she believes there is much to gain from those with diverse backgrounds and experiences when their voices are amplified. Serving students with disabilities has helped her step into her own power in a way that she does not know she would have if not for this work.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. White is civically engaged as evidenced by her years of service within her church community and as a founding member of the Eleishia Washington Scholarship Foundation, founded in honor of her eldest sister who passed away in 2016 from breast cancer. The program offers scholarships, supplies, and other program incentives to students from the Forrest City School District where Ms. White was born and raised.
Dr. White’s professional contributions have been recognized with awards such as the Teresa Haven Distinugieshed Professional Award from the Arkansas Association on Higher Education and Disability in 2024 and the Supervisor of the Year Award from the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Arkansas State University just a few years ago.
In her personal and professional life, Dr. White envisions expanding her impact by engaging in private practice telehealth while continuing to advance her leadership role within higher education. She remains committed to fostering student involvement and belonging initiatives, with a steadfast dedication to making accessibility an integral part of institutional culture and beyond.
