His expertise in Java, debugging code, tutoring, HTML and C programming language has been instrumental in his success. Additionally, he is a member of several industry-related organizations, including the Association for Computing Machinery, the Association for Information Systems (AIS) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Prior to his current position, Mr. Freburg was an integral part of Illinois State University in various capacities. From 2022 to 2023, he served as the coordinator of the School of Information Technology Learning Center, honing his skills in managing educational resources and supporting student learning. Between 2020 and 2023, he was a Java lab instructor, during which time he imparted his knowledge of programming languages to students. His involvement with the Solar Car Team from 2019 until 2021 showcased his commitment to innovative projects and sustainable technologies. Furthermore, he contributed to the Information Technology Help Desk at the Mennonite College of Nursing from 2019 to 2021.
Propelling Mr. Freburg’s career forward were his significant educational achievements. He first minored in business administration and management at Lincoln College in 2017 before obtaining a bachelor’s degree in web development from Illinois State University in 2020. This accomplishment was particularly meaningful as it represented his return to academia as an adult. He subsequently earned a master’s degree in computer science from the same institution in 2023, where his graduate project focused on research in space technologies with an emphasis on cube satellites and ground stations. In 2024, he went on to earn a postgraduate certificate in systems analysis, also from Illinois State University.
In addition to his academic credentials, Mr. Freburg has acquired numerous accreditations that underscore his commitment to professional development. These include certifications from the CITI Program for educational, social and behavioral research with human subjects in 2024 and executive leadership certifications from Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and the National Society of Leadership and Success between 2021 and 2024. He also holds certifications from Amazon Web Services for AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials and AWS Academy Cloud Foundations, obtained in 2020.
Further illustrating Mr. Freburg’s contributions to the industry have been his publications, including as the coauthor of “Initial Steps to Create a University CubeSat Program,” which was part of the 2024 IEEE Space Computing Conference. He also coauthored “Increasing Student Success in Entry-Level Programming Courses,” published by the AIS in 2024. He credits his accomplishments to the guidance he received from others and a personal motivation to succeed.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Freburg is actively engaged in civic activities within his community. He has been a member of the Steering Committee of the American Civil Liberties Union of Central Illinois since 2014, demonstrating his dedication to civil rights advocacy. Additionally, he has served on the Citizens’ Beautification Committee for the city of Bloomington since 2018 and the McLean County Jail Review Committee since 2015.
