Mr. Usandivaras is a distinguished founding partner of VERBANK Consultants & Advisors, where he has dedicated more than 15 years to providing advisory services and investments in the agribusiness sector. His expertise in cross-border finances in emerging markets and agribusiness has been instrumental in guiding American investors in the South American market. Mr. Usandivaras co-founded VERBANK in 2008 with Paulo Vieira da Cunha, initially as an agricultural investment fund, which later evolved into a comprehensive advisory service. The firm focuses on various areas, such as corn production, soil management, cattle farming and meat packing, offering both direct investments and advisory roles.
Before his tenure at VERBANK, Mr. Usandivaras held several prominent positions in the financial sector. He served as a director at Itaú Asset Management in Asunción, Paraguay, in 2022 and was a strategic advisor for Banco Itaú from 2020 to 2022. This company later acquired his firm and transformed it into a significant enterprise. As Itaú is the largest bank in South America, Mr. Usandivaras is very proud that the bank acquired his small company. His career also includes a significant period as managing director at J.P. Morgan from 2011 to 2016, where he navigated the complexities of investment banking and asset management. Prior to this role, he was a managing director at Deutsche Bank from 2010 to 2011 and served as senior executive officer at Itaú USA from 2008 to 2010.
Mr. Usandivaras’s earlier career highlights include his role as managing director at Merrill Lynch from 2006 to 2008, where he successfully led his team through the financial crisis of 2008 without incurring losses. He also held the position of managing director and principal at J.P. Morgan from 2001 to 2006, a tenure he values highly due to the firm’s esteemed reputation. His career began in earnest with roles such as senior manager at EY from 1997 to 2001 and vice president at ABN AMRO from 1999 to 2000.
Mr. Usandivaras’s academic background is equally impressive, with an MPA in development economics and international development from Harvard Kennedy School and a degree in an international tax program from Harvard Law School, both completed in 1997. Additionally, he holds FINRA Series 7, Series 63 and Series 66 certifications obtained in 2003.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Usandivaras is actively involved in civic-minded organizations. He supports initiatives like Poorest of the Poor and Pro Mujer and engages in various charity work across remote regions of Latin America.
Mr. Usandivaras was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1991. In his personal life, he enjoys watching movies and Broadway performances, reading books and hiking both locally and in the Alps. He is currently working on a book titled “Notes of Paraguay,” which will detail his experiences with his broker-dealer business sold to Itaú and include articles on regional stock markets in developing countries.
Mr. Usandivaras attributes his success to his education, the values instilled in him by his parents, his mentors and the opportunities that corporate America has provided him. Looking ahead, he plans to focus more on teaching others about growth financing through lectures primarily aimed at MBA students. He also intends to increase his involvement in pro bono work, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience with future generations.
