Mr. Maddox’s journey in the energy sector began in 1978 as an electrical engineer at Vistra in Decatur, Illinois, where he honed his technical skills over six years. In 1984, he transitioned to Entergy in New Orleans, Louisiana, as a real-time applications analyst. He then advanced to Duke Energy in Plainfield, Indiana, as a system engineer from 1987 to 1991. During this period, he also shared his knowledge as an engineering instructor at Purdue University in Indianapolis. His career trajectory continued upward with roles such as manager of station maintenance at NiSource in Wheatfield, Indiana from 1991 to 1998 and utilities support services manager at Smurfit WestRock in Dublin, Georgia until 2001.
Mr. Maddox’s leadership capabilities were further demonstrated during his tenure as Genco operations manager at Alliant Energy in Ottumwa, Iowa from 2001 to 2005 and as engineering manager at Evergy in Topeka, Kansas until 2008. He then served as assistant plant manager at GenOn in Newburg, Maryland where he earned the Plant of the Year award in 2009. His subsequent roles included business manager for generation asset management at AES in Indianapolis from 2010 to 2012 and plant manager at DTE Energy in Bakersfield, California until 2014. At DTE Energy, he achieved notable accolades including the All Time Continuous Unit Run Record and All Time Monthly Generation Record in 2013.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Maddox has been actively involved with industry organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), where he served as membership chairman in 1988. He is also a distinguished member of Toastmasters International, having held various leadership positions including area governor and district treasurer. His commitment to civic engagement is evident through his volunteer work with political campaigns and community initiatives in New Orleans during the mid-1980s.
Mr. Maddox’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Missouri University. This academic foundation has been instrumental in his successful career trajectory. He attributes much of his success to the guidance of exceptional mentors and the unwavering support of dedicated colleagues throughout his professional journey.
Outside his career, Mr. Maddox was born in Fulton, Missouri and shares a fulfilling personal life with his spouse Debra Kay Yerk Martin Maddox and their daughter Kimberly Ann.
