As the chief executive officer and founder of Rainbow-Ono Sanctuary since 2021, she has been instrumental in leading initiatives that promote self-leadership and well-being.

A distinguished professional in organizational leadership and education, Dr. Mainah has made significant contributions across various fields throughout her career. As the chief executive officer and founder of Rainbow-Ono Sanctuary since 2021, she has been instrumental in leading initiatives that promote self-leadership and well-being. Her role involves spearheading proposal writing for project funding, collaborating with volunteers and directors, and engaging in extensive research on gardening practices in the United States. Additionally, she actively updates her social media platforms, sharing insights on self-leadership through videos on YouTube and other channels. Her company began with the idea of a virtual garden but has now grown to a physical location that she soon plans to expand with further grant funds.

In 2017, Dr. Mainah embarked on a pivotal journey as an immigration officer with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. Her dedication to public service led her to also become an asylum officer, where she has played a crucial role in assisting individuals seeking refuge in the United States. Concurrently, she was a part-time instructor at Western Michigan University from 2013 to 2022, served as a positive psychologist, leader development coach and personal life coach at her own organization, Freedom Business Consulting LLC from 2010 to 2024. Her expertise in curriculum design, public speaking, instructional design, delivery, and self-leadership has been widely recognized.

Dr. Mainah began her career as an educator in Kenya, teaching English as a foreign language before transitioning to managing other educators. She then moved to Botswana where she served as a training officer and senior consultant with a government-sponsored professional development organization. She eventually moved to the United States on a diversity visa and assumed her role as an immigration officer.

Dr. Mainah’s academic journey is marked by notable achievements that have significantly contributed to her professional success. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy in organizational leadership from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2016, following a Master of Science in organizational learning and performance from Western Michigan University in 2013 and a Master of Education in Instructional Design and technology from the same institution. Her educational foundation was laid with a Bachelor of Education from Siriba College in Kenya in 1984. Currently pursuing an honorary doctorate in humanitarianism from GIA Advocate University, she attributes her accomplishments to her passion for self-leadership and being self-directed.

In response to her numerous accomplishments, Dr. Mainah has received various accolades. Among these are being named Best Teacher of English in a District in Kenya in 1993 and serving as a faculty fellow for part-time instructors at Western Michigan University from 2016 to 2017. She is also involved with the International Leadership Association, the Institute of Coaching at McLean Harvard Medical School and University and the Harvard Business Review.

Dr. Mainah is also an accomplished author with several published works to her name. Her books include “The Rising of Black Women in Academic Leadership Positions in USA: Lived Experiences of Black Female Faculty,” and “Sub-Saharan African Immigrants’ Stories of Resilience and Courage,” co-authored with Mariam Konaté. She has also contributed book chapters, such as “Women’s Empowerment And Sustainable Development In Kenya,” to scholarly publications. Many of her articles address challenges facing female leaders of color in U.S. higher education and narcissism in organizational leadership and others on global health.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Mainah has made significant contributions to civic organizations as the chief executive officer of Triangle Lodge Learning Center, of Dallas, Texas and a volunteer coordinator at Douglass Community Association in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Born in Murang’a, Kenya, she enjoys gardening, reading, and writing as hobbies. In the upcoming years, she envisions expanding Rainbow-Ono Sanctuary into a global initiative upon retiring from her government position.
