Mr. Capo has dedicated over 25 years to adolescent mental health, focusing on leadership training, strategic planning and organizational structure. As the executive director of The Charlton School since 2017, he oversees all operations within a 24-hour therapeutic learning community. His responsibilities include managing the budget and overseeing clinical, educational and operational aspects. Under Mr. Capo’s leadership, the school has seen significant advancements, including securing funding for a $14 million project to build four new student dormitories, marking the first major construction since 1955. This project also includes a student maker space for after-school activities and job skills development.

Before his current role, Mr. Capo owned Counseling Associates of Saratoga Springs from 2008 to 2017, where he maintained a private practice. He also worked as a Brightside for Families and Children therapist between 2000 and 2003. His career began as an adventure therapist at Blackwater Outdoor Experiences from 1999 to 2001 after garnering success as an assistant clinician at Hampden County Correctional Facility, starting in 1997. Throughout these roles, Mr. Capo honed his expertise in adolescent mental health and developed a comprehensive understanding of therapeutic practices.

Mr. Capo’s academic background laid the foundation for his successful career. He earned a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation services with a concentration in pediatric rehabilitation and a Master of Arts in psychiatric rehabilitation and mental health counseling from Springfield College in 1996 and 1999, respectively. Mr. Capo’s education was further complemented by obtaining a licensed mental health counselor certification from the New York State Education Department in 2006.

Influenced by an extraordinary college professor who emphasized holistic medicine, Mr. Capo’s approach is rooted in seeing the whole person and individualized care. He attributes much of his success to surrounding himself with talented individuals who share his vision for growth and improvement. By prioritizing collaboration, Mr. Capo has fostered an environment conducive to innovation and excellence within The Charlton School community.

Looking ahead, Mr. Capo is focused on implementing a new strategic plan for The Charlton School. With the completion of new dormitories, he aims to expand residential capacity and enhance treatment services to create an environment that mirrors a collegiate experience while providing comprehensive care.
