As the director of outreach and education for the Human-Centered AI Institute at the University of Houston, Dr. Kaisen has established himself as an expert in human behavior and human-focused artificial intelligence. In his role, he is responsible for supplying his class with the latest materials, conducting scientific research, reading recently published papers in business and artificial intelligence, performing analysis and data collection, and meeting with colleagues and students for research proposals. He is renowned for his commitment to advancing the field of artificial intelligence through research and educating young people in a rapidly evolving environment.
Prior to reaching his role at the University of Houston, Dr. Kaisen was a visiting assistant professor at St. Mary’s College of Maryland from 2021 to 2023. During his tenure, he was instrumental in mentoring students in economics and business, guiding them to design a policy that won a national award at the iOme Challenge by the Women’s Institute for Secure Retirement. From 2016 to 2021, he worked as a professional tutor with Wyzant — where he maintained student ratings within the top 0.01 percent — while also serving as an adjunct professor at the University of South Florida from 2018 to 2020.
Dr. Kaisen’s journey began with his role as an undergraduate assistant at Ohio University from 2010 to 2012, where he was awarded first place at the Ohio University Research Fair for his pioneering research in computational mathematics. He also served as a graduate assistant at the University at Buffalo from 2012 to 2015, followed by a similar position at the University of South Florida from 2016 to 2018.
Dr. Kaisen’s diverse academic achievements laid a strong foundation for his career in education and artificial intelligence. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in economics from the University of South Florida, earned in 2021. Additionally, he obtained a Master of Science in physics from the University at Buffalo in 2015 and earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and physics from Ohio University in 2012.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Kaisen has given back to his community by volunteering for local park clean-up initiatives. Also a prolific writer, he has co-authored several scholarly works that have been published in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, the Journal of Instrumentation, Physical Review Letters and more. His dedication to excellence has been recognized with many accolades, including multiple research grants like the behavioral research award grant from the University of Houston in 2024 and the Vernon Griggs Scholarship from the University of South Florida in 2020.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Kaisen was born in Rochester, New York, and enjoys walking his dog and spending quality time with his wife. Looking back on his career thus far, he is immensely grateful for the support and guidance of his friends, colleagues and mentors and acknowledges their vital role in his success. He also takes great pride in his ability to learn from past experiences, which constantly guides him through his teaching, public speaking and consulting endeavors.
