MINNEAPOLIS, May 4, 2023 — Perforce Software, maker of Helix Core, the industry-standard version control for media and games, announced the 2023 State of Game Development & Design Survey. This year, Perforce partnered with Unbelievablea leading development acceleration platform for developers and DevOps teams.
The survey aims to gather insights from game developers – including studio owners, technical staff, developers, artists and designers – to provide a comprehensive view of the future of the industry, new tools and platforms, and the challenges and opportunities of development ahead.
“The gaming industry is evolving rapidly as the tools and technology teams rely on continue to provide exciting opportunities,” said Brad Hart, VP of Product at Perforce. “Over the past year, we’ve gained insights into the economic impact of streaming and subscription models, as well as the increasing adoption of cloud-based workflows to support remote collaboration.”
Last year’s global survey found that 60% of studios develop games exclusively in the cloud, and another 18% use a hybrid model. These findings were summarized along with others in the Perforce 2022 Game Development Trends & Forecast Report.
“This joint survey initiative with Perforce will help us better understand how studios build games, along with their challenges,” said Duncan Huffman, Head of Product Marketing at Incredibuild. “This information will help us make informed decisions about future product features and ensure we’re always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in game development.”
This year, the 2023 State of Game Development & Design Survey will raise money for A tree planted, a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation and habitat creation for biodiversity. For each valid survey response, Perforce and Incredibuild will make a $1 donation to help restore forests and degraded ecosystems.
