Dune: Part Two has wrapped up filming. In an Instagram post, lead actor Timothée Chalamet said, “DUNE 2 WRAPPED (with desert dad !!)” in which he stars alongside his father, Marc Chalamet. Filming on the highly anticipated sequel began in July, with Denis Villeneuve returning as director to produce the second half of Frank Herbert’s original 1965 novel. Dune 2’s release date was recently brought forward by two weeks – after Marvel Studios blade evacuated the place – and is now set to hit theaters next November.
Villeneuve — best known for the critically acclaimed Prisoners and Bladerunner 2049 – did the impossible when he managed to turn around Herberts dense epic in a digestible format. Well-known filmmakers such as David Lynch attempted an adaptation decades ago that turned out to be infamous, while Alejandro Jodorowsky, who was inspired by his own graphic novel series The Incal, didn’t even get it off the ground. 2021 dune also happened to be one of the first with a big budget – US$165 million (about Rs 1,363 billion) – Hollywood Films to prove that in a post-COVID world, people were still willing to go to theatres. The film grossed US$401.8 million (approx. Rs.3,320 billion) at the worldwide box office bagged six Academy Awardsincluding one each for best camera and the original score.
While Chalamets Tweet never mentions plot details, the official Dune: Part Two summary off Warner Bros. states, “This sequel film will explore the mythical journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen as he embarks on a warpath of vengeance against the conspirators who destroyed his family.” first movie showed glimpses of Paul’s visions, which included an oncoming crusade in which he cut down enemies in battle while clad in strange gold-and-white armor. The clip focused on his blue-tinted eyes – presumably after he mastered the application of the rare spice aka melange.

Set 10,000 years before the events of Dune, the series follows the Harkonnen sisters as they meddle with an underground coven called the Sisterhood of Rossak who train their minds and bodies to gain supernatural powers. With Emily Watson (Synecdoche, New York) and Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter Movies) starring, the show is set to follow the evolution of the enigmatic Bene Gesserit we saw in the 2021 movie.
Dune: Part Two will be released in cinemas worldwide November 3, 2023.
