Nothing phone 2 expected to start soon. Nothing’s CEO, Carl Pei, confirmed today which chipset will be used for the phone. According to earlier reports, the successor to Nothing phone 1 is expected to be released between June and September of this year. Nothing’s first phone was launched with several unique features, including the transparent back protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Enthusiasts are expecting significant upgrades for the second phone from the company. Notably, Pei was the co-founder of OnePlus, who left the company and founded Nothing in 2020.

in one tweet, Carl Pei confirmed that the Nothing Phone 2 is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. In a back-to-back tweet thread, Pei explained why it’s “a clear upgrade” from Nothing Phone 1.

According to Pei, initial tests showed that the app opening speed on the Nothing Phone 2 is twice as fast compared to the Phone 1. The upcoming smartphone should offer an overall increase in performance of around 80 percent compared to its predecessor.

The Nothing Phone 1 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC. In comparison, the Snapdragon 8-series chipset offers other significant improvements in addition to speed, such as improved battery life, network connectivity, and camera performance.

According to Pei, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC features an 18-bit image signal processor (ISP) that allows users to capture over 4,000 times more camera data than the ISP used on the Nothing Phone 1. Therefore, the Nothing Phone 2’s camera is expected to offer improved features such as Raw HDR and 4K recording at 60fps.

The TSMC Snapdragon 8-series 4nm SoC offers best-in-class power consumption and thermal management capabilities, Pei adds. Pei not only justifies the choice of chipset, but also defends the SoC itself. He states that since its launch a year ago, it has undergone thorough testing and regular optimizations through multiple updates, suggesting that it now offers the best experience , than it ever could.

Possibly preempting the question of why not use Qualcomm’s latest and fastest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, Pei preemptively clarified in one of the tweets that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC was preferred over all other options to improve accessibility for customers ensure improvements over the company’s last smartphone without compromising on quality.

Nothing Phone 1, available in black and white color options, was priced at Rs. 32,999 for 8GB + 128GB. The 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB variants were marked Rs. 35,999 and Rs. 38,999 each at launch.
