Leading telecommunications service provider Bharti Airtel announced on Thursday that it had surpassed the 2 million mark 5G User mark on its network in Tamil Nadu.
Airtel claimed in a statement it was the first country to roll out the fifth-generation (5G) cellular system and Chennai was one of the first eight cities to go ultra-fast Airtel 5GPlus.
Airtel’s 5G service is now available in over 500 cities and towns in Tamil Nadu. According to the statement, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Tiruppur, Hosur, Vellore and Salem are among the 460 cities and 173 villages in the state that have benefited.
The company’s 5G service already connects all train stations, bus terminals, freeways and major business centers across the state.
Tarun Virmani, Chief Executive Officer for Tamil Nadu, Bharti Airtel said: “We are witnessing a rapid rollout of Airtel 5G Plus in Tamil Nadu. I am pleased to announce that we have over two million customers on our ultra-fast Airtel 5G network.”
Virmani added the company will continue to expand its network, connecting all cities and key rural areas across the state to give even more customers super-fast access to high-definition video streaming, gaming, multiple chats, instant photo uploads and more .
According to the statement, Airtel 5G Plus is available in over 3,500 towns and villages across the country and has surpassed 10 million unique customers on its 5G network nationwide.
Airtel said it is well positioned to cover all cities and key rural areas with Airtel 5G services by September 2023.
The company said it has also made unlimited 5G data available to its customers to encourage them to experience the power of the Airtel 5G Plus network. It says customers can enjoy ultra-fast, reliable and secure 5G Plus services without worrying about data exhaustion as Airtel has lifted the data usage cap on all existing plans.
