Launched in 2009, Truecaller allows users to be notified before a call rings while also seeing if the call is from a spam number.
The caller ID app serves 300 million monthly active users, with 73 percent of its users being in India, where it keeps releasing new features to maintain its user base.
Last week, Truecaller launched a “government directory” feature in India, allowing Indians to connect with verified government officials.
To stay in tune Google PlayStore Policiesthe platform recently retired its “call recording” feature.
Truecaller, which currently displays the names of unsaved numbers saved by Crowd sources, may need to change this feature soon to align with the expected changed rules in India.
India’s telecoms regulator, the TRAI, has urged the public to do so submit proposals whether those caller ID apps like Truecaller will need to display the actual names of callers registered on the SIM card in the coming days.
Public comments on the paper can be submitted to the regulator until December 27, while the deadline for counter-comments is January 10, 2023.
