Elon Musk posted a poll on Twitter on Monday asking users to vote on whether he can continue as the microblogging platform’s chief executive officer (CEO). The poll has now ended with over 17 million votes. Nearly 57 percent of users voted for Musk’s stepping down as Twitter CEO, while around 42 percent of users who took part in the poll voted for him to remain Twitter CEO. Musk has stated that he will abide by the poll results.

Musk, who was pictured attending FIFA World Cup 2022 Final between Argentina and France at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Doha, shared a tweet saying any major policy changes would be put to a vote on Twitter. The tweet, which went live right after the final in Doha, also apologized for not implementing such a system sooner. Musk has promised that such policy changes will not be made without consensus.

Shortly thereafter, Elon Musk shared a Twitter poll asking users if he should step down as CEO of Twitter, with another promise intended to reassure users that he would comply with the poll’s findings, which whatever they may be.

Now that the poll is complete, it appears Musk may have to step down as Twitter boss. However, there’s no clarity as to when he plans to do so, or if he’s already decided who will take over.

Musk currently holds the position of CEO of six companies, which in addition to Twitter also include Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company, Neuralink and the Musk Foundation, and had previously stated his intention not to remain CEO of Twitter for too long quote an overload of work in all six companies.
