Several new renderings of it Nothing phone (2) have been leaked online and show what the upcoming mid-range smartphone could look like at launch.
The pictures are from Industry insider OnLeaks who then shared his findings with news site Smartprix. According to the breakdown, the Nothing Phone (2) will be similar to the first model, with some minor changes to make it more ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing. The front and back of the phone are said to have a slight curve. Combined with a rounder frame, the new design aims to offer “a more comfortable grip” and add a “touch of elegance” to the overall look of the device.
However, the more notable changes are found on the back. The signature Nothing glyph is now segmented into six separate parts instead of one solid line. Smartprix claims this configuration will allow users to “create custom lighting… around the wireless charging area” for a personal touch.
In addition, the LED camera flash has been upgraded to a dual setup, allowing for “enhanced lighting capabilities”. In our Nothing Phone review (1)We found the cameras “took good, good quality shots.” [when it’s bright out] but the system is groping in the dark.” So the Phone (2) could enable better photography in low light conditions – at least that’s the hope.
The design shown in the leak is based “on live images of a test unit,” meaning the final product might look slightly different. For example, the SIM tray is on the right edge of the phone and not at the bottom like the phone (1). The renders only show the bottom edge with a USB Type-C port and speaker grille; There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack, however, as is par for the course with Nothing.
Line up
Looking at the leaks as a whole, they all seem plausible with what we know about the Nothing Phone (2).
The company recently confirmed that the display will measure 6.7 inches, 0.15 inches larger than the older model. A larger size means more weight, which can cause hand fatigue with repeated use. This could also explain why the developers are making ergonomic design changes to mitigate this issue. The pill-like video indicator featured in the leaks was actually first unveiled in early May Nothing is the official Twitter account.
As with all other leaks, this information should be treated with caution. Not much else is known about the Nothing Phone (2) apart from a few other small things. We’ll just have to wait for the model to launch later this summer to find out more. The launch date is expected to be around July, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the Nothing Phone (1).
Until then, be sure to check out TechRadar’s coverage of the Nothing Phone (2), such as the recent confirmation that the smartphone is powered Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 mobile platform.
