A Twitter A video app for smart TVs is in the plans of the social media company, owner Elon Musk said in a tweet on Saturday, a move in line with the company’s new plans to focus on expanding video content on the platform.
In response to a tweet suggesting the need for a Twitter video app, Musk replied, “It’s coming.”
New CEO Linda Yaccarino and Musk outlined Twitter’s plans to focus on video, creator and commerce partnerships to revitalize the social media company’s business beyond digital advertising in an investor presentation Thursday.
The investor presentation has been reviewed by Reuters.
One slide from the presentation stated that vertical videos accounted for more than 10 percent of time spent on Twitter.
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson launched a new show on the platform called “Tucker on Twitter” earlier this month. Twitter understands it could sell ads and sponsorships in addition to videos from Carlson and other content creators, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Yaccarino, who started as CEO on June 5, told Twitter investors said last week that the company was in initial talks with politicians and entertainment giants, payment processors and news and media publishers about possible partnerships, said a source familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity to a private Investor call to discuss.
Yaccarino told investors adspend is now up at least 40 percent year over year across several categories of advertisers, including healthcare, consumer goods and financial services, the source said.
