Instagram has now introduced a new feature that allows users to download roles shared from public accounts. The feature was announced by Instagram boss Adam Mosseri on his Instagram broadcast channel. The feature is currently only provided to US-based users. Previously, Instagram allowed users to share the reels directly to public accounts in their stories or via chat. The app also allows users to save reels which will appear in the saved reels tabs. However, with the new feature, users can now share the downloaded reels via other platforms like WhatsApp and more.
Adam Mosseri shared on his Instagram Broadcast channel that US Instagram users can now download reels to their camera roll. Users can simply tap the share icon and then select the download option to save the reel to their phone. However, the reels can only be downloaded if shared from public accounts. Reels shared by private accounts cannot be downloaded. Also, users with public accounts can turn off the ability to download reels for others in the app settings.
Mosseri also shared an image showing a download option available in the bottom menu, as well as add to story, share, copy link, and other options. The image also suggests that the downloaded reels will receive an Instagram logo along with the account name.
There is no information on the availability of functions in other regions. However, Instagram users can download their own reels from their drafts without the watermark. Also, they can share the reels on their stories or via Instagram chat, or copy links to send to others via other social media apps including WhatsApp. However, since the Instagram reels are saved in camera rolls, users can also share the reels on WhatsApp and other social media apps without having to copy the link.
Earlier this month was Instagram reported to work on a chatbot feature based on artificial intelligence (AI). It aims to allow users to interact with AI agents who can respond to queries, offer advice and compose messages.
