WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to report suspicious status updates on PCs or laptops through the desktop app. The Meta-owned news service is testing the new feature for a future update of its desktop app. WhatsApp currently offers the ability to report suspicious messages or spam messages to the company to stop the spread of spam and malicious content on the platform. However, with this new way of reporting status update features, the instant messaging app becomes even more secure.
According to a WABetaInfo reportWhatsApp for Desktop Beta is working on a new feature that will allow users to report a suspicious or malicious status update that appears to be violating theirs Terms of Use, to the company for moderation. The report suggests that users will be able to flag a status update directly from a new menu in the status section, where there will be an option to report a status update.
Once reported, the status update will be forwarded to Whatsapp similar to the reported messages for moderation reasons. Specifically, this reported status update is end-to-end encrypted as messages, voice calls, media, location sharing, calls and status updates are protected by the end-to-end encryption, the report states. Nobody can access the end-to-end encrypted content, not even WhatsApp or Meta.
The feature to report status updates for the desktop beta is currently under development and is expected to be released in a future update. The feature is also expected to roll out in WhatsApp Beta for Android and iOS in the future. However, there is no confirmation of this.
WhatsApp for desktop was also recently available sighted is working on a new feature that will allow users to add a new layer of privacy by adding a new screen lock feature to their desktop app. WhatsApp currently offers users password-protected access on both Android and iOS, where users can set a PIN to open the app. Now WhatsApp is bringing the same feature to desktop, allowing users to set up a password to restrict unauthorized access while away from the system.
