MOVIES
– Don DeLillo’s 1985 novel “White Noise” has long been considered “unfilmable”. spirited argument for its adaptation. At Baumbach “White noise,” Adam Driver plays Jack Gladney, a college professor with a well-stocked suburban family (Greta Gerwig plays his wife, Babette). When an “airborne poison event” engulfs their town and causes residents to flee, a new fear of death permeates Jack’s middle-class existence. In my review I commended the film’s “dizzying somberness” and the book’s wholehearted embrace of its dizzying, dense intensity. Don’t miss the supermarket dance finale accompanied by the LCD sound system.
