EA has officially announced that it is working on one Black Panther single player game. In a tweet, the publisher confirmed that its new studio would be based in Seattle cliffhanger games is developing an original, story-driven game that explores the world of Wakanda. The project will be led by Kevin Stephens, who was then studio head of Monolith Productions Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was conceived. Originally codenamed “Project Rainier”, the title is a result of EA Partnership with Marvel – founded last year – to develop at least three new games. The Black Panther The game is still in early development, so it doesn’t have a release window.
“We strive to provide fans with a definitive and authentic experience Black Panther “Experience that gives them more agency and control over their narrative than they’ve ever experienced in a story-driven video game,” Stephens said in one blog entry. “Wakanda is a rich superhero sandbox, and our mission is to create an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.” Although the term “open world” isn’t mentioned anywhere , its description as a sandbox suggests the game could be heavily focused on exploration – something like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, where the activities of the world create a sense of openness and freedom. It’s also worth noting that the team is still being assembled and Cliffhanger Games is posting job postings on its official website for anyone interested.
No further details were given, but in 2022 games journalist Jeff Grubb reported claims that the premise of the game is set at the beginning after the death of the Black Panther. Players must then pass a series of trials or challenges to become the next incarnation and King of Wakanda. That said, it might not necessarily be a reference to King T’Challa’s death since we have no idea what timeline the game is set in. In the comics, Wakanda was ruled by King T’Chaka, who got into trouble with the villain, vibranium-possessed Ulysses Klaw, ultimately leading to his death. Returning to his homeland after finishing school, his son T’Challa secretly took part in an open challenge to become the Black Panther we know today. So there’s a chance we’ll play an origin story. At this point, however, I’m only speculating.
Black Panther is the second in a series of three games EA is in development with under a contract Wonder. There is currently no release window for the Black Panther game, but we can assume it will personal computer, PS5And Xbox Series S/X.
