The Lake District has been voted Britain’s happiest road trip

The lake district, Devon to Cornwall and the Peak District have been named the UK’s happiest road trips in a new poll by the leading fuel brand – JET.

One of the most beautiful and alluring parts of the country, the Lake District is where fond memories of driving are made. 33% of British drivers named the national park as their best road trip The breathtaking drive along the coast from Devon to Cornwall takes second place and the gritty, dramatic Peak District puts a smile on drivers’ faces and takes third place.

At the June 2023 online event, 2,000 British drivers were asked to take a trip down memory lane and vote for the road trips they have the happiest memories of. They were also asked to define what makes them happy about those trips and how driving gets them into it feel.

Stonehenge, Norfolk Coast and Waterloo Bridge

The Kinks sang about it, Michael Caine as Alfie walked over it, Matt Smith as Doctor Who rode a scooter over it, and poet Wendy Cope famously wrote about falling in love with it. Freedom, depth and meaning and being a “passenger princess”…

The survey found that 52% of UK drivers feel happy and happy when citing “driving through beautiful countryside” (56%) and “feeling free” (44%) as the top two factors in driving Driving is a pleasure. pleasant experience. Other happier factors include: “listening to your favorite road trip playlist” (37%); continuously having “profound and meaningful” conversations with a partner/family/friends (28%); “Sing like nobody’s looking” (27%) and (although not severe from a driver’s point of view) to be a “passenger princess” – which received 17% of the votes.

Driving pleasure and mental clarity

When asked to explain the emotions they experienced during a favorite road trip, British motorists have been surprisingly candid about sharing their feelings.

In addition to happiness (the most common answer, with 52% of votes), just under half (45%) said they felt feelings of “calm and contentment”, with 42% feeling “excited” and a quarter of UK drivers feeling ” Peace and contentment” felt “mental clarity” (23%). Other emotions cited by the 2,000 drivers surveyed included: “love” (26%); “Nostalgia” (22%) and “Empowerment” (18%).
